Project overview
British Energy Plc are the UK’s leading nuclear energy company employing many thousands of staff throughout the UK. They have remote sites scattered around a broad geographical area and numerous intranet systems forming an essential part of their internal communications. These systems were inconsistent in style, difficult to use and attached to outdated legacy systems. Starfish Creative was invited to develop a clear and intuitive creative strategy with a single point of access for all information.

Objectives
Design a professional, user-friendly interface for all content to adhere to.
Provide comprehensive user guidelines.
Integrate designs with an existing Oracle Portal system.

Solution
During the early development, a duplicate Oracle Portal intranet environment was configured in the Starfish Creative London office where he approved designs were integrated into the Oracle Portal system. For subsequent stages of the project, a small development team was sent to British Energy’s East Kilbride office where they worked closely with the Oracle system and British Energy’s own Oracle programmers. The core project was completed within four months allowing the webmasters to migrate all the sites into the newly design templates providing a uniform look and feel across the entire intranet system.

Results
The project was delivered on time and to the agreed budget with the final solution being well received by the client and their customers. Further stages are due to provide specific departmental development work for individual divisions with the intention of adding new functionality using Oracle Portal to ensure parity across the organisation. Current consideration is also being given to the integration of the internet site along with a knowledge management system.
